IMG_0006

Congratulations to our May Co-Athletes of the Month- Pam Rotherham and Layne Zimmers!  Friends and coworkers, Pam and Layne have been mainstays at C3 since joining four years ago! Over this time, Pam and Layne have been an absolute joy to coach.  They know how to work hard while also keeping things lighthearted and fun. These ladies are two peas in a pod and it only seemed fair to acknowledge all of their hard work together.  Congratulations to Pam and Layne!

1. In general, what is your background?
It all started in the 1980’s when we became neighbors. Layne was in diapers; Pam was driving. However, we didn’t realize that we lived in such close proximity until years later. Both are from Springfield, Illinois.

2.Age, Occupation?
Pam and Layne are very young and beautiful. They both teach at Lincoln Magnet School, which is a fabulous environment that has a focus on technology integration. We teach sixth grade students from all over Springfield. Our school has received many honors including the National High Performing Blue Ribbon award and Apple Distinguished award 10 years in a row. Pam teaches writing and literature, while Layne teaches world history. Population awesome, Pam and Layne.

3. How did you get to know about CrossFit and why did you start?
Previous members, Jason and Nikki Burgar, researched Crossfit gyms in the area and asked us to join with them since they knew we were at the end of Professional Athletic Careers. We were hooked when the gravel embedded in our knees on the sweltering hot pavement outside the Monty’s as patrons sat in the air conditioning sipping cold sweet iced teas. We love the challenge!

4. How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
Where do we begin? The variety of exciting movements bring lasting effects on our health. Physically, we can lift and move people around, if need be. Being stronger and confident, relieves stress, too. After a long day of teaching, Crossfit allows for a community where we can interact with adults in a positive way.

5. Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit.
Now that we are serious after four years at C3, we have a pretty strong goal to master the unassisted pull-ups. Our current goal is to complete five unbroken by November. PS- we are at four. We know, pretty amazing. Our next goal is to string 10 toes to bar. Thanks to our godfather, our greatest goal is to become harder to kill. We have claimed this as our mantra and continue to strive for this ability.

6. Favorite CrossFit moment so far?
Hands down, the Halloween WOD from three years ago, when we faced the zombie apocalypse. It was not only challenging, but a humorous experience.

7. What is your most favorite WOD to date?
We love anything tabata! Who doesn’t like a break? LOVE IT!!

8. What do you like most about Capital City CrossFit?
Well of course the people. We have become very fond of our 3:30 crew. When we are not getting in trouble, they really have encouraged us to reach our goals this year. Shout out to Brim, Speedy Crack, the Harder to Kill Godfather, Mr. Nice, and the rest of the Bro Show.

9. Favorite movement?
We love toes to bar and ankle rotations! LOVE THEM!

10. Least favorite movement?
Barfees (a.k.a Burpees) and Thrusters (mostly Layne).

Special thanks to the coaches for putting up with us, encouraging us and creating an atmosphere that we look forward to visiting each day!!
